Maryland Natural Gas Utilities

In September 2009 the final rules for competitive gas supply were approved by the Maryland Service Commission (PSC) to allow the unbundling of services (Deregulation) that allow residential Natural Gas customers to have a “Choice” of their own supplier. Commercial customers have had a choice prior to 2009. Since 2009 there were three natural gas utilities, listed above, participating in the program.

Your natural gas bill is made up of three parts;
1) Gas Generation Charge: Price of gas paid to Utility. Price and cost of gas based on quantity used obtained from your home meter. 
2) Delivery Charge: Price paid to your local utility to deliver gas from the City Gate to your home. Includes cost such as meter reading, cost to maintain pipelines and billing to name a few. This charge will remain regardless of supplier choice.

3) Sales Tax: State and local taxes.

Your local utility will still deliver your gas as always for the same fee, but the cost of your natural gas itself is now up to you.
