Indiana Natural Gas Choice Program

In April 1998  legislation was passed by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to allow the unbundling of services (Deregulation) that allow residential and commercial Natural Gas customers to have a “Choice” of their own supplier.  NIPSCO is the only natural gas utility, listed above, participating in the program.

Your natural gas bill is made up of four parts;

1) Gas Commodity Charge: Price of gas paid to Utility or Choice Supplier.  Price and cost of gas based on quantity used obtained from your home meter.

2) Interstate transportation and storage: Price paid to the Choice Supplier to move gas through pipelines and from storage to the NIPSCO pipeline that connects to your home. Regulated by NIPSCO.

3) Delivery Charge: Paid to NIPSCO for use of their pipeline to deliver gas to your home or business.

4) Indiana Sales Tax: Tax paid to the State.

Your utility will still deliver your gas as always for the same fee, but the cost of your natural gas itself is now up to you.
