In March 2002 legislation was passed by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) to allow the unbundling of services (Deregulation) that allow residential and commercial Natural Gas customers to have a “Choice” of their own supplier.  Since 2002 there were three natural gas utilities, listed above, participating in the program. 

Your natural gas bill is made up of three parts;
1) Gas Commodity Charge: Price of gas paid to Utility or AGS (Alternative Gas Supplier).  Price and cost of gas based on quantity used obtained from your home meter.  Rates are not regulated or reviewed by the ICC.
2) Delivery Charge: Price paid to your local utility to deliver gas from the City Gate to your home.  Includes cost such as meter reading, cost to maintain pipelines and billing to name a few.  This charge is regulated by the ICC.

3) Sales Tax: State and local taxes. 

Your utility will still deliver your gas as always for the same fee, but the cost of your natural gas itself is now up to you.
